Is an MD referral required for Physiotherapy Treatment?

No referral from a doctor is required to seek treatment, however, we encourage you to verify the details of your extended health care plan so some plans do require a physician referral to reimburse costs of treatment.

If you have been injured as a result of an automobile accident, or have a claim under WSIB, then in all likelihood you will likely have all of your treatment paid for under you extended healthcare plan. Physiotherapy is covered by most health insurance plans. You can verify your coverage in your Extended Health Manual, or by speaking with your Human Resources department.
